TC’s top 40 albums of 2009

Say adios to the ’00s! This is TC’s top 40 albums of 2009.

Believe it or not, this is the 7th consecutive year that I’ll be counting down my favorite music. I’ve been part of this great event every single year since 2003. This time, we’ve reached the end of the decade. That’s insane.

The first 4 years, I had my old weekly countdown, The TC 10, determine the year-end statistics for me. Of course, those days are long gone, so the last couple of times I’ve done my year-end countdown, it has been a mixed bag of formats. This year, I’m gonna end the decade right by returning to the unbeatable model I chose back in 2007: my top 40 albums of the year, along with some singles as bonus material. It doesn’t get any easier than that.

Who will take the crown this year? You will soon find out, right here. We’ll have a blast as we send off the ’00s. The long road to #1 starts all over again, right now. I hope you’ll come along for the ride one more time.

TC’s top 40 albums of 2008

Hey, where are you going? I’m not done yet! That’s right, it’s the middle of 2009 and I’m back to count down my top 40 albums of 2008. I never got around to it back in December; I thought just a list of songs would suffice.

I’ve since changed my mind, obviously, and I’ve decided to add this definitive list of albums to the history books. Let’s get to it!

TC’s top 120 songs of 2008

I can’t believe it either! This is TC’s top 120 songs of 2008.

For the sixth consecutive year, I’ll be counting down the best music according to me. That’s right, I have been doing this since 2003, and I’ve come back for more. Join me for yet another look back at yet another year of music.

Ever since The TC 10 left us at the end of 2006, I’ve had no “stats machine” to help me tabulate the year-end. Last year, I decided it was too daunting a task to come up with 120 songs, so I chose to do a list of my top 40 albums of 2007.

This year, however, I’m bringing the best of both worlds, as I’ll be counting down both my top songs and my top albums of 2008, for what will probably go down as the most epic year-end reflection the world has ever seen.

TC’s top 40 albums of 2007

Here we go again! This is TC’s top 40 albums of 2007.

It’s hard to believe it’s already time for my 5th year-end countdown. Nevertheless, here we are. Every year since 2003, I’ve been counting down my favorite music of the year, and this year is… well, a little different.

My personal weekly countdown, The TC 10, is no longer with us… it closed out at the end of 2006. In past years, I calculated my favorite singles of the year using statistics from The TC 10. So this year, for the first time, I won’t be counting down my favorite singles. Without the help of The TC 10, how could I ever come up with 120 singles of the year, in order? Impossible, I say.

Although there won’t be a proper singles list, there will definitely be much to come this year. It’ll be another struggle to get it all done by the end of the year. I’ve doubled my list of albums from 20 to 40, and there will be some special features. On the agenda, I’ll start with albums from 2006 that I missed out on until this year, continue with some miscellaneous singles of 2007 (none of which from my top 40 albums), and finally the feature presentation, my top 40 albums of 2007

So, 2006 was a great year for music, and it was all about Cat Power and Lily Allen at the top. But what about 2007? Will superwomen reign supreme again? You’ll have to stay tuned over the next two weeks and find out, of course. If this year is anything like the others, it’ll be a fun trip. The long road to #1 starts right here, and I hope you’ll be along for the ride with me once again.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s party time! This is TC’s top 120 singles and top 20 albums of 2006. For the 4th year in a row, I’ll be counting down my top 120 singles of the year, based on the stats from my personal countdown, The TC 10. It’ll also be the last year that I’ll be able to grab stats from The TC 10.

Now, there’s more to this list than just the top 120 singles. Last year, I added a list of my top 10 albums. That list will be returning this year at double the size, as I’ll be counting down my top 20 albums of 2006. The fun begins with my favorite concerts, radio stations, and artists to watch, followed by singles and albums.

The TC 10 (vintage clips)

Each week on The TC 10, I chose an older song (mostly from the ’80s or ’90s) as a vintage clip of the week to close out the countdown. Here’s a list of all the vintage clips. The numbers next to each song correspond to the week it was picked as a vintage clip on The TC 10.

The TC 10 (2006)

This is it. Today, The TC 10 comes to an end.

The countdown began all the way back on Sunday, March 9, 2003, as a random idea that I never thought would last 200 weeks. The next week, the countdown would find its home on Fridays for almost four years. Now, here we are, returning to Sunday one last time for the final edition of The TC 10.

Before sending off the countdown, let’s take a look back at how we got here, with the very first edition of The TC 10.
